The United States has agreed to allow Russian diesel exports to both U.S. and global markets, following discussions between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
This deal, announced on October 10, 2026, includes the immediate supply of more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel, with an additional 500,000 tonnes set for November and one million tonnes thereafter.
On October 11, President Trump also declared an "energy ceasefire" between Russia and Ukraine, signaling a potential easing of tensions in the energy sector. This development is expected to increase global diesel availability and could impact fuel prices worldwide. The agreement carries significant implications for India’s energy sector and trade, especially amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainties.
Notably, it follows less than a month after President Trump signed legislation allowing tariffs of up to 100% on countries importing large volumes of Russian oil and gas, raising questions about the evolving dynamics of U.S.-Russia energy relations and their effects on global markets.
