The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) lodged a formal police complaint on Tuesday evening, October 13, 2026, alleging an attempted knife attack on former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee near her residence in Kolkata's Kalighat area.

According to the complaint submitted by TMC Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen to the Kalighat police station, the incident occurred around 6:00 PM as Banerjee was stepping out to inaugurate a local Durga Puja pandal. The party identified the woman as 38-year-old Tannishtha Saha—referred to as Anusua Saha in police records—a civic police volunteer who arrived in a visibly intoxicated state. TMC leaders alleged that Saha attempted to bypass security checkpoints by claiming to be Banerjee's niece before brandishing a knife, shouting verbal abuse, and trying to breach the security perimeter.

Alert party supporters and security personnel immediately intervened, forming a protective human chain around Banerjee to subdue the suspect. Saha was taken into custody by Kalighat police personnel, and no injuries were sustained during the confrontation. Senior TMC representatives raised sharp concerns regarding security arrangements for the former Chief Minister, while local law enforcement officials confirmed that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
