The Indian rupee strengthened by 82 paise to ₹94.96 against the U.S. dollar on October 13, 2026. This rise was supported by RBI measures aimed at curbing speculative forex trading and reducing immediate dollar demand.
Key steps included a dedicated dollar window for oil marketing companies via designated banks, restrictions on rebooking cancelled rupee-linked derivatives contracts, and a 20% reserve requirement for banks on dollar purchases exceeding $2 million.
The rupee extended its recovery after gaining 93 paise in the previous session. Additional support came from a weaker dollar index and falling Brent crude prices.
Meanwhile, the Sensex rose 305 points to 72,224.15, and the Nifty gained 93.40 points to 22,458.50. Despite this, foreign investors continued selling equities, offloading ₹1,708.48 crore on Monday. Retail inflation rose to 5.54% in September from 4.83% in August, driven by higher onion and other food prices.
CR Forex Advisors expects the rupee to move towards ₹95.00–₹94.80 in the near term. However, currency movements will depend on market conditions and the effectiveness of RBI measures.
