Police in Gujarat have arrested Rafikul Alam (25), a resident of Sanchuka in Barpeta Road, Assam, for his alleged role as a key financial handler in a massive cross-border cybercrime network linked to Chinese operators. According to Superintendent of Police Vivek Bheda of the Gujarat Cyber Centre of Excellence, Alam was implicated in 1,090 cyber crimes across India, involving a total of ₹1,071.55 crore.
The accused reportedly facilitated "digital arrest" scams and other cyber frauds by routing stolen funds through domestic channels and laundering them into cryptocurrency for overseas syndicates. Authorities emphasized that tracking crypto assets remains a major hurdle, but ongoing investigations aim to trace additional proceeds and apprehend co-conspirators.
Investigations remain ongoing to identify additional syndicate members and trace further illicit funds.
