Kanaklata Das, a resident of Majroimari village in the Sirajuli area of Sonitpur district, was deeply moved after learning about the severe hardships faced by community members in the Amguri garden area of Sivasagar district following torrential rains and flooding. Refusing to let her advanced age stand in the way of taking action, Das decided to convert her sympathy into direct support.
Travel-weary yet determined, she journeyed in person to the Sivasagar District Commissioner's office. There, she met with District Commissioner Mridul Yadav to execute her mission. Drawing entirely from her hard-earned lifelong savings, Das personally distributed a financial contribution of ₹2,000 to each of the 77 flood-affected families present.
At a time when physical and financial recovery remains a steep uphill task for flood survivors, Kanaklata Das’s remarkable gesture serves as a powerful testament to the enduring human spirit and the profound impact of individual kindness.
