- Nabajit Das, sub-inspector in charge of the Laisong police outpost, was found dead in an apparent hit-and-run incident in Dima Hasao district.
- Police have arrested two suspects, while two others remain absconding as investigators probe the case.
"There is credible information that Nabajit Das was killed by peddlers. Police are investigating the matter and details will be shared later," Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sarma said at a press conference in Guwahati.
The vehicle involved, bearing registration number AS-02-AJ-4335, was later found abandoned in the area, police said.
"Earlier, it was brought from Myanmar through Manipur and Mizoram, but now it is being routed through Changlang in Arunachal Pradesh and then Tinsukia," the Chief Minister added.
