"There is credible information that Nabajit Das was killed by peddlers. Police are investigating the matter and details will be shared later," Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sarma said at a press conference in Guwahati.

The vehicle involved, bearing registration number AS-02-AJ-4335, was later found abandoned in the area, police said.

"Earlier, it was brought from Myanmar through Manipur and Mizoram, but now it is being routed through Changlang in Arunachal Pradesh and then Tinsukia," the Chief Minister added.
