In Brief:
- RSS wing SJM demands bans and boycott of US firms over Russian oil tariffs.
- This comes weeks before RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's US and Canada visit.
- The demands highlight opposition to US-imposed tariffs on Indian oil imports.
- The move aims to strengthen India's stance against external economic pressure.
The Swadeshi Jagaran Manch (SJM), the economic wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has strongly criticized proposed US Senate legislation that seeks to authorize tariffs of up to 100% on countries making significant purchases of Russian oil.
Urging the Indian government to hold its ground on energy imports, SJM called on citizens to boycott American products and pressed New Delhi to impose a unilateral ban on major US tech and social media giants.
SJM emphasized that continuing Russian oil imports is essential to protecting India’s energy security, controlling domestic inflation, and upholding diplomatic autonomy.
This sharp stance comes just weeks ahead of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's scheduled visit to the United States and Canada for international outreach. SJM's demands reflect growing economic nationalism within segments of Indian policy discourse, signaling strong domestic opposition to foreign trade coercion.
