The Maharashtra government is launching a financial investment program for Marathi films focusing on Gen-Z audiences. The state plans to share part of the production costs with filmmakers to reduce their financial burden and encourage relevant, engaging content for younger viewers. Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar emphasized the need for Marathi cinema to build a stronger emotional connection with Gen-Z, inspired by South Indian films' success in attracting a loyal young audience.
The government urges filmmakers to adopt artificial intelligence, advanced filmmaking technology, and high-end visual effects to enhance the appeal and quality of Marathi movies. However, Shelar stressed that modernization should not compromise the Marathi language, cultural identity, or the industry's core essence. This initiative aims to blend government financial support, modern technology, and culturally rooted storytelling to make Marathi cinema more appealing to the new generation while strengthening the regional film industry.
