Seven people lost their lives after a stampede at the Ashok Dham temple in Lakhisarai district, Bihar, early moring on monday, 17 August. The incident took place as a large group of devotees rushed to offer sacred water to Lord Shiva.
The authorities have reported that two trains loaded with devotees had arrived at the Lakhisarai railway station shortly before the stampede. Most of the devotees involved were women who hurried towards the temple to perform rituals. The injured during the ceremony were shifted to local medical facilities for treatment.
The authorities are investigating the details of the event. The administration is expected to take measures to manage crowd control during such religious gatherings in the future.
