India's 80th Independence Day celebrations in the New York tri-state area culminated at Veterans Memorial Park in Parsippany, New Jersey, with a Guinness World Record for the largest flagpole number. Over 1,300 U.S. flags, surrounded by Indian tricolours, formed "250" to symbolize the United States' 250th anniversary. This achievement united the Indian-American community and marked the dual celebrations of India@80 and America@250.
The event was organized by the Consulate General of India in New York, in partnership with the Federation of Indian Associations NY-NJ-NE, and supported by Zoho. Attendees included community members, elected representatives, and business leaders.
The program featured cultural activities and highlighted the strong people-to-people ties between India and the U.S. Across the region, celebrations included flag-hoisting ceremonies, cultural performances, and the illumination of prominent landmarks in Indian tricolour colors. This record-setting display emphasized the Indian diaspora's contributions to American society and its role in strengthening India-U.S. relations.
