In a major push to boost urban resilience and governance, Guwahati is preparing to implement "Lodestar," a low-cost, multi-hazard early warning system capable of predicting urban flooding up to six hours in advance. Developed under a bilateral India-Netherlands initiative involving IIT Guwahati, IISc Bengaluru, and ASDMA, the AI-driven platform integrates real-time sensors, hydro-meteorological data, and government CCTV networks. Chief Secretary Ravi Kota recently reviewed the roadmap to operationalize the decision-support dashboard over the coming year, with long-term plans to cover landslide risks as well.
Simultaneously, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a new ₹81.20-crore integrated DC office complex at Rupnagar, launching the first phase of a broader administrative overhaul. To streamline public services and save citizens long commutes, the state plans to delegate greater authority to lower-level administrative offices and set up localized centers for land and flat registrations across the city.
