The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the development of a 135.871 km, 4-lane access-controlled highway corridor connecting Guwahati and Tezpur on NH-15 in Assam.
To be constructed under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) Toll Mode at a total cost of Rs 8,970.20 crore, the project aims to ease congestion on the existing NH-27 south of the Brahmaputra River.
Key features of the project include a 4.9 km Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) at the Tezpur Bypass finalized with the IAF, 5 major bypasses totaling 58.7 km, 15 major bridges, 30 minor bridges, 19 flyovers, 46 underpasses, an elephant underpass, and 210 km of service roads.
The upgraded corridor will halve travel times, double average travel speeds, and improve road safety while connecting key regional nodes, including 8 PM Gati-Shakti economic nodes, 2 social nodes, 3 tourist nodes, and 7 logistics nodes across Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
