Several Bodo organisations in Assam have expressed concern over the reported exclusion of Bodo from the ongoing Census 2026 enumeration process.

The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), All Bodo Women's Welfare Federation (ABWWF), All Bodo Primary Teachers Association (ABPTA) and Dularai Boro Harimu Afad (DBHA) jointly raised the issue at a press conference in Kokrajhar.

BSS president Gopinath Borgoyary described the reported omission as unfortunate and urged the Centre and Assam government to include Bodo in the Census exercise.

ABSU president Kwrwmdao Wary also called for all 22 languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution to be available as options in the Census.

The organisations said they plan to approach Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over the matter.

The issue has renewed discussion around language representation, cultural identity and the importance of accurate linguistic data in the Census.
