The ‘Kisan Bachao Padyatra’ will commence on August 16, with Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) National Co-convener Kurubur Shanthakumar announcing the event. The march will be led by veteran farmers’ leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal and aims to bring farmers’ pressing demands directly to the national capital.
Central to the padyatra’s demands is a legal guarantee for the minimum support price (MSP) for agricultural produce, a longstanding issue among farming communities. The organisers stress the importance of legally protecting MSP to ensure farmers receive fair prices and prevent distress sales.
The march will cover several regions, rallying farmers and raising public awareness about agrarian challenges. This movement reflects continued farmer activism aimed at influencing government policy.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha characterised the padyatra as a necessary step to secure farmers’ rights and livelihoods, highlighting the urgency of addressing their demands amid ongoing agricultural uncertainties.
