The Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Badminton Association of India (BAI) have joined forces to ensure the smooth running of the upcoming World Badminton Championships. This follows criticism during the India Open over poor infrastructure and disruptions caused by pigeons and monkeys. Significant upgrades have been made at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium ahead of the BWF World Championships, scheduled from August 17 to 23. Improvements include a repaired waterproof roof, enhanced seating, better lighting, new wooden courts, and automatic glass doors to keep birds and monkeys out.
Additional bird-control measures feature non-toxic repellent gel, sound-frequency devices, and personnel trained to mimic langurs. SAI and BAI are also coordinating logistics, athlete support, and event management to ensure a seamless experience for players, officials, and spectators. Focus areas include accommodation, transportation, training facilities, and smooth communication. This collaboration reflects a commitment to high standards for international sports events and aims to strengthen India’s reputation as a host nation. The stadium is fully prepared to host the World Championships in India for the first time in 17 years.
