A WhatsApp group of eight students, created in November last year and named "Fifa world cup 2026," led Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials to key National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) (NEET-UG) paper leak accused PV Kulkarni and Manisha Mandhare and exposed the modus operandi of a "paper leak conspiracy," the CBI has said.
The group was ostensibly meant to organise special Biology classes and discuss class schedules. However, officials found it played a significant role in facilitating the leak.
The WhatsApp group became a focal point in the probe, helping law enforcement identify how confidential exam material was circulated ahead of the NEET exams. The group's usage revealed coordinated efforts among involved individuals to distribute leaked papers.
Officials stated that this discovery bridged key gaps in understanding the leak's network, enabling more precise action against the accused. The group's name initially drew attention due to its unrelated title but proved central in exposing the malpractice.
