Six children have died, and more than 100 individuals fell ill in a disease outbreak in Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh. The outbreak has raised alarm among local health officials and residents.
Paresh Upalap, Chief medical health officer (CMHO) confrimed that the health experts and professionals are currently supervising the treatment of affected patients to contain the spread and provide care. Blood samples have been sent to the National Institute of Research in Bacterial infections, Kolkata, and Pune the ICMR- National Institute of Virology. The situation is further complicated by detected acute nutritional deficiencies in many children, which may be impacting recovery.
This event has highlighted the challenges in public health surveillance and nutrition amongst children in the region, prompting calls for enhanced healthcare interventions.
