In a significant political move, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leadership announced plans to pass a resolution urging the Union Government to maintain the total strength of the Lok Sabha at 543 seats. The resolution emphasizes preserving the existing ratio between the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha at 2.2 : 1.
Crucially, the party advocated for the immediate implementation of 33% reservation for women within the current structure of 543 Lok Sabha seats, rather than postponing women’s political representation until after a prospective nationwide delimitation exercise.
This proposal comes on the heels of TVK’s earlier parliamentary and public advocacy against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). By demanding prompt action to formalize women's reservation within the existing framework while maintaining state-level representation balance, the TVK initiative seeks to reshape ongoing national debates over parliamentary reforms and delimitation.
