India captain Shubman Gill, opener Abhishek Sharma, women’s opener Shafali Verma, and spinner Shree Charani have been nominated for the ICC Player of the Month awards for September. Their nominations follow impressive performances in international cricket.
Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza and Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu have also been shortlisted in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
Gill is vying for his fifth ICC Player of the Month award after scoring 333 runs in two ODIs against the West Indies. He made 110 in the first ODI at Thiruvananthapuram and followed it with a remarkable 223 off 133 balls—the fastest double-century in ODI cricket. His innings helped India chase down a target of 406 runs with eight wickets in hand and 39 balls to spare.
Abhishek Sharma earned nomination after scoring 229 runs in four T20Is against Afghanistan. His outstanding 108 off just 34 balls in the third match at Ferozeshah Kotla set the record for the fastest T20I century by an Indian batter, surpassing Rohit Sharma’s previous 35-ball record. It was also the fastest century by a batter from an ICC Full Member nation. Abhishek previously won the award in September last year.
In the women’s category, Shafali Verma was recognized as the leading run-scorer in the Women’s Asia Cup, while Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu earned nomination for her contributions with both bat and ball.
Spinner Shree Charani continued her impressive form by taking 18 wickets in seven T20Is during September at an economy rate of 3.30. Her performance in the Asian Games final, where she took two wickets for 13 runs, boosted her to 817 rating points in the ICC women’s T20I bowling rankings—the highest ever recorded. Charani had also been nominated for the award in June.
The nominations highlight outstanding performances across men's and women's international cricket, with four Indian players featured on the September shortlist. The inclusion of Gill, Abhishek, Shafali, and Charani underscores India’s strong representation across formats alongside Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza and Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu.
